This blog post is a long time coming, every time I tried to do one of these I always forget to take pictures of the items I put in my personal item when I’m flying. I usually only travel with a personal item and a carry-on bag, to keep things simple and cut costs. For my first ever work-related trip (yay adulting!) I also had to consider bringing things for work, so I thought this was a great opportunity to share what I’m packing.
I was really torn about whether or not to take a backpack or a purse for this trip since I needed it to be able to use it for double duty once I landed. I settled on this bag because it made the most sense for the items I was carrying.
Health & Beauty
The first category of things in my personal item is my health and beauty stuff. This category includes my make-up, medicine, lotion (not pictured), and lip balm (not pictured). I always bring lip balm and lotion, because I’m crazy dry after a flight and I cannot live with chapped lips and dry hands if I can help it. I pack my makeup in my personal item when I’m flying barefaced and need to apply makeup right after my flight it’s easy to grab and use. Last, I always have my medicine in my personal item just in case they start checking bags at the gate because of space. I recommend this for any and everyone because you want anything that important as close to you as possible at all times.
Work & Tech
This category is all the stuff I need to be able to do my work while I’m out of town. First, we have my laptop, which is self-explanatory. I also always have headphones (not pictured), I typically have Bluetooth pair with me nowadays, but I prefer to listen to an audiobook or a podcast while I’m in the sky. I also use these tiny notebooks that were gifted to me a couple of weeks ago to jot things down while I work instead of hauling my work notebook on the plane and weighing me down more. Last, I have a portable charger (not pictured), my phone charger, laptop charger, and the charger for my portable charger/headphones (not pictured).
General purse needs
This is all of the stuff I’d usually like to have on me like gum, my wallet, and an umbrella, nothing too special to write home about here.
