5 Things to Do When You’re Emotionally Exhausted

So, I totally had a different blog post prepared for today. It was a what’s in my bag, you know something light and fun to kick off your Monday but when I started to write I just couldn’t bring myself too. Why? Because the news cycle this weekend left me emotionally exhausted. So I decided to write about it because I like to think of the website as a place where I can be honest with myself and all of my readers so here goes nothing.

1. Walk away from the news cycle

I have a very hard time doing this, I really do. I want updates I want to be informed but if this weekend reminded me of anything its that stepping away from the news cycle is necessary. I don’t necessarily leave the Internet (which is a mistake in and of itself) but the Internet also makes me laugh and smile so I focus on the fun and not the really depressing state of the world

2. Write about your feelings

I am a strong supporter of journaling. Releasing those feelings helps ease the weight of your emotions by putting them out into the world without the fear that it’ll be overwhelming for someone else.

3. Do something mindless

This goes back to the whole walking away from the news cycle. I was going to watch Dear White People season three but I think I might watch something stupid like Real Housewives of Potomac or theme park history videos on Youtube. I literally read a Twitter thread making fun of Wattpad stories this morning, it definitely helped me feel better.

4. A self-care day

All of these can be seen as self-care but maybe unplug for an entire day or night. Put on some music, light a candle, do a face mask, go for a run, usually your emotional exhaustion means that you’re burning yourself out in some way so just take some time to recharge.

5. Prayer

This is one for my religious readers, pray with someone. It really does help ease your spirit and mind, plus it will help you feel supported if you do it with someone else.

Let me know what you do when you’re emotionally exhausted whether by the news or just the stress of life in the comments!
