Even as I get older I still love YA books because they often offer us the diversity and the imaginative storytelling that we all often crave. They take risks with their concepts and critique the world around us more than we often realize. So here are five YA books that I think are great reads everyone should check out:
What If It’s Us

What If It’s Us is a book about two boys falling in love during the summer in New York City. The book also explores the obstacles faced when trying to communicate across class and culture.

To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before (series)

We’ve all seen the Netflix movie but the books themselves are even better. It gives more insight into the life of a mixed-race Korean girl and the relationship she has with both her sisters and her mother than the film does which I think makes the books even more interesting.
Get the series on Amazon for $18.11
The Sun is Also a Star

This is another book that’s been turned into a movie, but I likely won’t be seeing it. However, this book also explores society and love through the eyes of two very different teens that’s equal parts hesitant and naive, it’s so beautiful.

The Belles

This book explores beauty and status through the world of magic, because what’s a list of YA novels without one that includes the supernatural. This book emphasis on the diversity of beauty but how an obsession with it can lead to disaster is a great read and the sequel was released in March and I cannot wait to get my hands on it!

I hope everyone checks these books out, they’re all great reads. What’s your favorite YA book? Let me know in the comments!

These seem like good picks! I’ve been reading so many personal development books lately, that this would be a good change!
Thanks for the recommendations. I had rob google what YA meant (perhaps I’ve been living under a rock lol). I’ve got To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before on my summer reading list. I’ll check out the rest.
I have no shame in admitting I am all about the To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before series. Can’t wait for the second movie either.
I’ve never heard of ya novels but I def want to take a look at the belles!!
I personally love Jenny Han as an author and you’re brief review of the book makes it sound like a good read. I’m definitely gonna have to check out the book and watch the Netflix Film. I also appreciate that you included links to where each book can be purchased.
I remember being obsessed with YA’s. I think I read To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before in one sitting! I need to get back to reading now. Great recommendations!
I love YA books! I’ve been thinking lately about getting a new book as I miss getting lost in the pages and imagining the beauty of that world. Thanks for these awesome suggestions. I will definitely be checking them out.
The books they turn into series and movies are always better. I love the detail of the books that the movies/series just don’t have time to add. All the titles seem really good reads. The Belles caught my interest because I really enjoy the supernatural world. Thanks for sharing ❤
I love YA books! They are always full of all the excitement my little teenaged heart desired lol. Thanks for the recommendations. Candice @littlestepsbighappy.com
I absolutely loved The Sun is Also a Star!
As an English teacher, it’s not often I come across a YA list where I haven’t read any of the books. These are now all on my summer reading list! They all sound interesting.
