Must Have Summer Playlist

Summer is in full swing which means it’s time for a summer playlist. This playlist has been tested in my car when I got off on a Friday with my sunroof open, and I live in Florida, so I think it’s summer approved.

The Bops

These are the songs that are must haves, you’ll be dancing and singing in your car like your life depends on it. Support these jams, love these jams, blast these songs whenever there’s a speaker available.

Nice for What – Drake

A bop, a bop that I have issues with for sure, but a bop nonetheless.

KOD – J. Cole

I’m not gonna lie, I had my doubts but KOD definitely deserves to be a hit for the summer.

God’s Plan – Drake

Drake is the king of the summer, so you knew “God’s Plan” was going to make the cut.

Powerglide – Rae Sremmurd (feat. Juicy J)

This song is a hit and then adding Juicy J? A certified summer jam!

No Limit – G-Eazy (feat. A$AP Rocky & Cardi B)

This song may be old, but it’s a must have for the summer, mostly because of Cardi, but we can go there in a second.

The Middle – Zedd, Maren Morris & Grey

This is an entire bop that I can’t help but sing at the top of my lungs, it’s just so catchy!

Walk It Talk It (feat. Drake) – Migos

It’s a hit that will have you dancing and smiling, so it’s definitely a need for your summer soundtrack.

The Ladies

Mostly comprised of female rappers (I have declared this the summer of female rap), these are songs released for the ladies, by the ladies.

Get Up 10 – Cardi B

Off of her debut album, Cardi B snapped with this one. I remember when she gave a sneak peek of this one on her Instagram last year, it was a hit then and a hit now. If you love Dreams and Nightmares by Meek Mill this one’s for you.

Bickenhead – Cardi B

This hit is not for the faint of heart, BUT if you need to feel like a legend check out this bop. It’s honestly my favorite song off my album. Plus, it’s a sample of Project Pat’s “Chickenhead” produced by Juicy J, who is in fact a legend and an icon from my momma’s hometown of Memphis.

Drip – Cardi B

I actually hated this song when it came out, but it is truly a great summer hit.

I Like It – Cardi B

It’ll make you dance as soon as it starts! Totally a summer jam.

Money Bag – Cardi B

A hit that will have you gassing yourself, your home girls, and possibly a girl you just met at the function.

Barbie Tingz – Nicki Minaj

Ms. Minaj gave as two amazing summer hits and this is one that will have you rapping along in your chest. Do yourself a favor and have this one on the ready for whenever you need to feel like an icon.

Chun-Li – Nicki Minaj

Nicki is always ready to give us a bop and that’s what she did when she dropped this one. I know this song has people torn but it’s definitely a ton of fun.

Trust Issues – Rico Nasty

I just want everyone to know, this is my girl. Rico Nasty is a legend in the making and everyone should get hip. Here’s a shameless plug her mixtape drops June 15th, which means there will be plenty of new songs for you to add to your playlist. So, be on the lookout for a legend.

Smack a B**** – Rico Nasty

Did your coworker try it? Is someone irritating you on the phone? Is your man annoying? Then this is the song for you. If you haven’t caught on, Rico Nasty is the artist for us all, there’s not much more I can say except, please stan this legend.

Boo’d Up – Ella Mai

Feeeeelings, so deep in my feeeeelings. This is the song you sing off key whether you have a man or not.

Everywhere – Chloe x Halle

These are Beyonce’s proteges, so we shall support them accordingly. Plus a hit that will have you singing along about how much money you have even after Apple Music and Netflix take their cut of your paycheck.

Fake – Chloe x Halle (feat. Kari Faux)

More Chloe and Halle to bless your ears!

Happy Without Me – Chloe x Halle

My favorite song off their debut album, this is definitely a great song to sing if being “Boo’d Up” isn’t where your heart is right now.

Icy Girl – Saweetie

As you may have noticed, I’m big on supporting female rappers and this song is definitely a bop, especially for us “girly girls.”

No Tears Left to Cry – Ariana Grande

 

Ms. Grande gave us a hit with this one, I don’t care what you all have to say about it.

The Throwbacks

These are the bops that have been with us for years that we all probably know and love.

Big Pimpin’ – Jay Z (feat. UGK)

We’re going to kick off this category with a classic, this is a necessary jam for us all.

Summertime – DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince

Yet another staple, is it really summer without Will Smith?

I Get Around – 2Pac

This is the song Twitter automatically associates with a quality summer function, so why wouldn’t it be on the list.

Happy – Ashanti

Yet another Ashanti bop that’ll having you grooving along with a huge smile on your face.

Thong Song – Sisqo

This is definitely one of my favorite summer bops, it’s catchy, simple, and makes you want to dance every single time.

I Need a Girl, Pt. 2 – P. Diddy (feat. Loon, Ginuwine, & Mario Winans)

This is definitely a song to groove to and hopefully “Diddy Dance” when the opportunity presents itself.

Case of the Ex – Mya

This may be the pick that’s super random to some, but have you listened to this song lately? It’s absolutely amazing.

Blow the Whistle – Too $hort

To end this list off here’s a hit that we all love, it’s a must have.
